Grammar Mastery, Reading Habit, Reading Comprehension of
Narrative Text
E. The present study is aimed at demonstrating the effect of grammar mastery
and reading habit towards students' reading comprehension of narrative text.
The objectives of the research study are to know 1). There is significant
effect of grammar mastery towards students’ reading comprehension of
narrative text. 2) There is significant effect of reading habit towards
students' reading comprehension of narrative text. 3) There are significant
combined effects of grammar mastery and reading habit towards students'
reading comprehension of narrative text. The survey method was employed
in this study. The population of the research was 709 students and 88
students were chosen as sample based on probability sampling methods
particularly simple random sampling. The instruments used in collecting the
data of grammar mastery is multiple choice test, reading habit questionnaire,
and reading comprehension of narrative text use multiple choice test. The
data gathered were quantitatively analyzed with descriptive statistics which
cover mean, mode, median, and standard deviation. Moreover, multiple
regression model was utilized to know the effects of independent variables
on the dependent variables. The result 1) There is significant effect of
grammar mastery towards students reading comprehension of narrative text
at Public Junior High Schools in Bogor. It is proved by the score of Sig
0.000 < 0.05, and t-value 7.713. 2) There is a significant effect of reading
habit towards students reading comprehension of narrative text at Public
Junior High Schools in Bogor. It is proved by the score of Sig 0.000 < 0.05
and t-value 3.857. 3) There are significant effects of grammar mastery and
reading habit towards students' reading comprehension of narrative text at
Public Junior High Schools in Bogor. It is proved by the score of Sig. 0.000
< 0.05 and F-value = 183.095
