The Effects Of Perception on the Learning Environment and Vocabulary Mastery towards Students' Writing Skills in Descriptive Text (Surveu of Junior High Schools in Bogor)

The Learning Environment, Vocabulary Mastery, Students' Writing
Skills in Descriptive Text
E. The aim of this study is to find and analyze the effects of the learning
environment and vocabulary mastery towards students' writing skills in
descriptive text in junior high schools in Pamijahan and Cibungbulang
districts, Bogor Regency. The sample size used in this study was 88 students,
who were taken randomly, or equivalent to 12.3% of the total population of
715 eighth-grade students of eighth grade in public junior high schools. This
study uses a quantitative approach with a multiple correlation technique
consisting of 2 independent variables, namely the learning environment and
vocabulary mastery, and one dependent variable, namely students' writing
skills in descriptive text. Data collection was carried out using instruments in
the form of questionnaires for the learning environment variable, multiple
choice tests for vocabulary mastery, and descriptive writing tests for the
writing skills variable. The collected data were then analyzed using simple and
multiple correlation and regression techniques. Before the data were analyzed,
descriptive statistical analysis and data requirements tests (normality, linearity,
multicollinearity, and heteroscedasticity tests) were first carried out. The
results of the study show that: 1) There are effects of the learning environment
and vocabulary mastery towards students’ writing skills. This is evidenced by
the value of Sig = 0.000 < 0.05 and F-count = 10.247 > F-table = 3.10.
Meanwhile, the value of the multiple correlation coefficient obtained is 0.441
with a contribution of 19.4%; 2) There is an effect of the learning environment
towards students’ writing skills. This is evidenced by the value of Sig = 0.017
< 0.05 and t-count = 2.438 > t-table = 1.987; 3) There is an effect of
vocabulary mastery towards students’ writing skills. This is evidenced by the
value of Sig = 0.002 < 0.05 and t-count = 3.276 > t-table = 1.987. Based on
this, the higher the learning environment and vocabulary mastery, the higher
the students' writing ability in descriptive texts will be
