E. This research is a kind of survey, aims to find out and analyze empirically the
effects of student’s perception on story mapping usage and vocabulary mastery
towards reading comprehension in narrative text. The count population of this
research is students from state junior high schools in Lebak, Banten. The
sample was gained through simple random sampling, which means that the
researcher mixed the subjects in the population so that they will be considerably
the same. The collection of the data is done by questionnaire and written test
for independent and dependent variables. The gained data was then analyzed
by using correlation technique and double linear regression. Previously, the
prerequisite test before examining the regression test must be accomplished.
The results of this research are: 1) There is a significant effect of perception on
story mapping usage and vocabulary mastery altogether towards student’s
reading comprehension in narrative text. It is proved by Sig.= 0.000 < 0.05 and
Fcount = 70.281; 2) There is a significant effect of perception on story mapping
usage towards student’s reading comprehension in narrative text. It is proved
by Sig.= 0.000 < 0.05 and tcount = 4.313; 3) There is a significant effect of
vocabulary mastery towards student’s reading comprehension in narrative text.
It is proved by Sig.= 0.000 < 0.05 and tcount = 8.191. It means that the student’s
reading comprehension in narrative text could be improved if teachers could
optimize student’s perception on story mapping usage and his/her vocabulary
mastery.
